| Description |
"In Cavalleria Rusticana, a claustrophobic mood is established at once in visual terms. We see houses with their windows and doors cemented up, like blind witnesses to a hideous crime. It's Easter Sunday. Just about everyone is clothed in funereal black, a visual darkness that is a sombre counterpoint to the seething emotions of the protagonists. Angus Wood as the singlet-clad Turiddu, he of the roving eye, oversteps the mark by having it off with Lola, who is married to Alfio. It's a bad move in a place called Sicily. At the same time, Turiddu casually dumps Santuzza, who he's knocked up." |
