Amusements - Her Majesty's - Australis |
| Abstract/Description |
Her Majesty's Theatre, gaily illuminated with coloured lamps outside, newly decorated within, crowded with people, and with its great curtain of crimson plush to give warmth and depth of colour to the coup d'oeil, presented an animated appearance last night. Mr. J C. Williamson's new Christmas annual was to be produced, and the holiday audience eagerly awaited the glories of a mise-en-scene in which the actor manager had announced his intention of rivalling all his previous efforts. The promise was amply fulfilled. "Australis, or the City of Zero." is purely a spectacular extravaganza, characterised by dazzling ballets, splendid scenery, and a beautiful transformation at the close, which, like the slender fable revealed by the book, is wholly Australian. |
