| Abstract/Description |
LONDON, Today: Authors of 'Showboat' would have been astounded to hear such names as Cootamundra, Woollongong, Geelong, Lai Lai and the 'Squatter's Daughter' spoken in their play, which has been running in London for some months. Explanation is that it was 'Australian night.' Australian members of Parliament were present, as well as Mr. Attlee. Admiral Evans and other well known figures with associations with Australia. Principal parts in the play were taken by Australians, headed by West Australian, Malcolm McEacharn. Gwyneth Lascelles, Sylvia and Leslie Kellaway and W. S. Percy. The Australian references, specially inserted, raised laughs from Australians, which greatly puzzled the remainder of the audience. |
