The Bubonic Plague. Cases in Sydney. A Theatre Closed |
| Abstract/Description |
A suspicious case of sickness was reported to the Board of Health yesterday and, upon investigation, it proved to be plague. The patient was a boy named G.McIntyre, at Surry Hills. It was found that McIntyre had been engaged in selling fruit, and that he had been following his avocation nightly at HerMajesty's
Theatre. This discovery led to a decision by the authorities that the theatre should be closed till it had undergone thorough disinfection and fumigation. No performance of "Ben Hur" could be given last night, and this resulted in great inconvenience to the public, who did not know of the theatre being closed till they
arrived at the doors. |
