| Abstract/Description |
Cavalleria Rusticana brought the heralded appearance of Melbourne soprano, Marie Collier, in the role of Santuzza. She has a brilliant, powerful voice, and the sort of personality that comes across the footlights and whips the audience into life.
Canio in Pagliacci gave Ronald Dowd the sort of role he sang excellently last year as Don Jose and even better last night. A tendency to overact needs to be guarded, but it isn't yet sufficient to mar the surge and drive of his performance.
