Dandenong Police Paddocks |
| Abstract/Description |
Site of the first Native Police Headquarters (1839), Westernport Aboriginal Protectorate Station (1840-42) and the third Native Police Headquarters (1843-1853). Also functioned as the Police Stud Depot until 1931 and farm until c.1959. Physical remains comprise 27 archaeological features associated with different phases of the sites occupation. Remains of at least 4 and possibly up to 6 buildings are located along the spine of a ridge on which the Native Police Headquarters was located. At least one of these buildings (feature 13) is likely to date from the third Native Police Headquarters - others are more recent. Other features comprise recent dumps relating to farming activities. |
