The Opera House Bourke Street Melbourne |
| Abstract/Description |
Perspective drawing of Harry Rickard's New Opera House, a red brick building with horizontal bands of white stone and arabesque details such as horse shoe arches and blue tiles. There are three narrow balconies on the facade with decorative iron balustrades. A significant feature is the sphere with a flag pole placed on a raised central section of the roof. The Australian flag is flying. Of special interest is the elaborate cast iron verandah with a series of six semi circular arches with gas lamps hanging at the side of each arch and a crescent shaped decoration at the centre of each arch. |
