| Abstract/Description |
Since the opening of the Sydney Theatre, numerous feuds have arisen between the actors and proprietor, who has benefited by their talents. In all these, we do not presume to enquire who is right and who is wrong, but we must notice the extreme bad taste of an advertisement, designating those who are about to amuse the good people of Parramatla with theatrical performances, as strollers. In point of fact they are not strollers , anymore than Kean, Young, or Liston would be on playing at a provincial theatre. In strict theatrical language they are "stars," and it is to be hoped they may shine forth in the country towns with amusement to the public and benefit to themselves. The application to them, of the word strollers, has we learn, been considered an intentional insult, this is a pity if not somewhat ungenerous. |
