DRAMA |
| Abstract/Description |
The second representation of the tragedy of "Jane Shore," took place on Tuesday night. Mr. Spencer was very respectable as Glocester— he reads Shakespeare better than any performer on the stage. In Mr. Cameron's Hastings there was a decided improvement both in voice and action; he was greeted with respectable applause in several parts of the character; as he has wisely taken our hint on previous occasions we will throw
out one more; he generally keeps his right arm to much bowed, which has a bad effect. Mr. Gordon as Dumont was more perfect, and played with greater feeling. Where Mr. Lane obtained the pluck to perform Belmour in the way he did is a query, we could not have supposed he possessed the physical powers; let him speak in tho same full voice in 'every character he enacts, and his success 'will be more certain. Mr. Peat's Ratcliffe was an improvement. Mr. Collins's Catesby was a fair representation.
Jane Shore was personated by Mrs. Cameron with great success; the dying scene was particularly effective, and did full justice to her reading of the character; in addition to her other qualifications, Mrs. C is invariably perfect to the letter. |
