An opera and ballet festival opened by the French Minister to Australia (Mr Auge) at the Theatre Royal was an outstanding feature of International week in Hobart. The programme included the unique are a garden scene from "Faust", Verdi's opera "Aida", in which Miss Joyce Macartney took the leading role, colourful dancers of Russia, Spain, Mexico, Scotland, and Australia, and a Chinese pageant with stage decorations by art pupils of the Technical College. The producer and musical director of the festival was Dr R. T. Werther, and Mr. Marcus Trappes was dramatic producer. |
