Title J. Pike's Double [Death of Mr James Brennan]
Abstract/Description Mr. James Brennan died at his residence, Elizabeth-street, city, yesterday, at the age of 66 years. He was widely known in turf circles, both as an owner and an importer of racing and breeding stock, for he made many trips to England and Ireland, where he attended sales on his own account and to execute commissions for others. Mr. Brennan was a member of the Australian Jockey Club and of Tattersalls Club, and many years ago was interested in the opening of the National Sporting Club. He raced many horses, among the early ones to carry his colours being Pendant, whom he secured as a four year-old, and who won among many races the Newmarket Handicap. Malt Queen was an other smart galloper to carry his colours. In more recent years he raced Oatendale. He is survived by Mrs Brennan, three sons, and two daughters. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, moving from Mrs. Kirby's parlours in Elizabeth-street at 10 30 for the Waverley Cemetery.
