| Abstract/Description |
Historical research has proven that theatre has been part of the cultural engagement of the Deaf community for many years. Several Deaf theatre companies and Deaf theatre practitioners had emerged in the 1970s and 1980s to connect with the Deaf community and allies in the broader disability and mainstream arts community through theatre. This research aims to understand the historical and current (social, cultural, political and professional) contexts of Deaf theatre in Australia, through an analysis of Deaf theatre companies and Deaf theatre practitioners to better understand what supports or impedes the work of these companies and artists. |
