Description |
Granite, one of the most remarkable of Clemence Dane's dramas, has its scenes set on the island of Lundy, on the Bristol Channel, 100 years ago. On this island, 'A bare rock sticking up out of the sea,' Judith Morris, a London shopkeeper's daughter, married to a brutal farmer, has eaten her heart out for 10 years. The arrival of her husband's half brother, Prosper Morris, a gallant young seaman under Nelson, fans the sullen misery of her rebellion into a wild passion. |
