The building was to be demolished to consolidate the site to make way for the MLC Centre. The Firm invited 'friends and associates' to a farewell party from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday 30 April. At this function there was a rallying of support to 'Save the Theatre Royal' which utimately led to the replacement theatre being incorporated in the development.
