| Description |
J C Williamson Ltd lease on the Thetare Royal expired at midnight on 30 April 1972. The Theatre had been sold by the Ramaciotti family on 25 September 1969 to Lend Lease for $7,250,000. The building was to be demolished to consolidate the site to make way for the MLC Centre. The Firm invited 'friends and associates' to a farewell party from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday 30 April. At this function there was a rallying of support to 'Save the Theatre Royal' which utimately led to the replacement theatre being incorporated in the development. |
