Description "an exhibition curated as part of the Contemporary Craft Curator Program examining craft practice in contemporary art."

“Fitching, Slewing, Upsetting, Waling are an uneasy combination - not quite one thing or another. They are words which can evoke an image of something like a twitching, waling mourner but are (disappointingly?) terms which define aspects of the craft of canework. The uneasiness between intent and production which the title implies will be the focus of Fitching, Slewing, Upsetting, Waling an exhibition of canework and basketry.

Fitching, Slewing, Upsetting, Waling will explore the relationships between differing modes of production, the intent of artists and curators, and the format of the media specific craft show which is often seen as the staple diet of craft curation.

This exhibition is being curated as part of the Contemporary Craft Curator Program which is an initiative of the Crafts Council of NSW, Faculty of Creative Arts of the University of Wollongong, Regional Galleries Association of NSW and Wollongong City Gallery.”
