The story turns upon the delusions of a barber whose latent mental derailment takes acute form a few minutes after having learned that he had won a fortune in a sweep He becomes obsessed by desire to make everybody happy by giving his newly won wealth away and to that end takes a street walker and a pickpocket to his home Of course the immediate result is to make his own family extremely unhappy, and to convince their alarming guests that the precarious life of the highway and byway was after all the best |
