"The Japanese tradition of performance with dolls [Banraku] dates back to the third century. The making and operating have been separate skills within that tradition, however, Hiroshi Hori has combined these skills and does everything himself - doll making, kimono dyeing, choreography and performance. [...] Banraku has traditionally involved three performers to animate the dolls, however Hori executes the performances by himself.
