| Description | The Depot Theatre will become a Maori Marae for five weeks over the Festival. The marae’s name, given by Harata Solomon, means “The Blossoming Tree of Our Sacred Grove.” The theatre and foyer will be used in the afternoon and evening in a range of activities, becoming a living space for artists and audience. Two dramatic productions by Maori writers will run back to back over four weeks. The theatre itself will be transformed into a Wharenui, the focus of a marae. It is in this Theatre/Marae setting that the plays will be performed. In the fifth week, Maori dance, one act plays, poetry and music will be showcased. | ||||||||||||||||
