Description Mark Morris is hailed as the most musical choreographer alive, an audacious talent whose acclaimed showmanship and invention reach their greatest heights in this glorious, large-scale spectacle. As melodious as The Water Music, as moving as Messiah, Handel's L'Allegro is a setting of Milton's verse in joyous celebration of humankind and nature. Premiered at Belgium's national opera, Théâtre Royale de la Monnaie, and, most recently, at the English National Opera in London, L'Allegro has proved a triumph at the world's great festivals. With 24 dancers, orchestra, choir, soloists and beautiful lighting and costumes, L'Allegro is epic and expansive. Mark Marrois has made numerous works for such leading institutions as American Ballet Theatre and Paris Opera Ballet. With Mikhail Baryshnikov he founded the White Oak Dance Project in 1990 (toured NZ in 1996) and has created more than 90 works for his own ensemble. In 1997 the Mark Morris Dance Group made an unprecedented sixth consecutive appearance at the Edinburgh Festival.
