Description The seven streams of the title are those which still flow under the city of Hiroshima. As symbols of continuity and renewal in the tumult of the 20th century they have inspired this sweeping, internationally acclaimed, contemporary saga. The Seven Streams of the River Ota is a giant masterpiece of ensemble theatre created by one of the world's greatest theatre and film directors, French-Canadian Robert Lepage. His fantastic staging moves from Kabuki simplicity to operatic grandeur, from quiet naturalism to high drama, its narrative compelling and crystal clear. Shifting between Japan, Europe and America, the lives and personal stories of its gallery of characters are linked through the most important events and issues of the 20th century - the holocaust, the bomb, the Aids epidemic, the will to survive and find happiness. Through its epic qualities and high-tech theatre environment, the performers create a human drama of deep and powerful emotion.
