| Description |
Through their multidisciplinary practice, queer performance and music duo GIRL explore masculinity, patriarchal power and androcentrism. In their latest project MASC, GIRL is creating a new immersive, sonic, concert-style experience that builds on their work Sentients presented for Vitalstatistix’s Climate Century festival in 2018. MASC explores provocations such as how can we forge a sonic template for queerness and masculinity? The term ‘Masc’ derives from the world of gay male dating app protocols which alert the potential date that you are only seeking ‘masculine’ types (no ‘femmes’). In dating profiles, the term is commonly phrased ‘Masc4Masc’, calling into question the suppression of feminine gestures and the dilution of a complex queer identity. |
