| Description | …There can be no disputing that Mr. Creswick's delineation of the character is a magnificent conception. It is not in the first two acts, however, that he shows to advantage. Mr. Creswick in his portrayal of the rage and passion of the King is apt to become incoherent, and though it may be said that blind, choking fury is incoherent and that therefore the acting is natural, still, as Charles Lamb says, an actor, paradoxical as it may seem, may be too natural, and naturalness should be sacrificed to intelligibility if the two should be found to clash…. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
