| Description |
The first in a series of locally written plays. Bix Beiderbecke (1903-1931) was the first white jazz genius. He fled from his strict home in Davenport, Ohio to play in the speakasies of Chicago during Prohibition. A cornet player with a haunting, facvile tone, he was adored by black and white jazz musicians including Louis Armstrong. The "jazz life" took its toll and Bix died, aged 28, an alcoholic, in a hotel room in New York. |
