Description |
"Aristophanes (c.445-c.385 B.C.) was the last & greatest of the old Attic comedians. One of his earliest, Thesmophoriazusae is a gem of parody & low comedy. It is full of gaiety & high spirits. Aristophanes has a knack of letting the audience right into the spirit of Athens during the long tragic war against Sparta. This robust, satirical, ludicrous entertainment contains scarcely a word about polititcs or the war, but concentrates on the ingenuity of Euripides to save his friend Mnesipochus from the wrath of the women of Athens." |
