Title |
The late Mr W. S. Lyster |
Abstract/Description |
The death of Mr. W. S. Lyster will leave a blank in operatic management and enterprise which will not be easily filled. The Australian public owe to his sagacity and energy many a happy evening spent at the theatres of Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide in listening to the master productions of the lyric stage. Take him for all in all, some years may elapse before we shall look upon his like again. His last effort as caterer for the amusement of the public was on the eve of being commenced in Sydney, when the news of his death rendered the postponement of the opera announced for performance absolutely necessary. This mark of respect the opera oompany paid to the deceased on Saturday, by closing the Theatre Royal and postponing the performance of Balfe's romantic opera the 'Rose of Castile' until some more fitting time. 'Maritana' is announced for performance to-night. |
