Saharet was born in either Melbourne or Ballarat on 21 March 1879. Her real name was either Clarissa or Clarice Campbell, and her father was said to be a showman and her mother a circus rider. She claimed her show business career began at the age of ten in the corps de ballet of the Theatre Royal, Melbourne. In 1893, when she was 14, her family moved to San Francisco, where she began to dance in sideshows and burlesques. She adopted the name Saharet in New York, where she debuted for Koster & Biels in February 1897. A few months later she performed at the Palace Theatre in London, then the Folies BergeĢre in Paris, followed by other European and American venues. She had long runs as a headline act at the Berlin Wintergarten and starred in films. Her last appearance was in Berlin in 1922.
