Opening of Formby's New Horse and Carriage Bazaar |
| Abstract/Description |
Inseparably connected with the Adelaide of bygone days in the minds of long-resident Adelaideans is the uilding situated off (Currie Street and Light-sauare— the old Victoria Theatre— which, mean and out-of-the-way as it now appears, was some thirty years since considered quite a grand Temple of Australia. Its little stage was honoured by the tread of some of the most genuine artists both dramatic and lyric that ever visited Australia, Identified with this once popular place of amusement are the names of G. V. Brooke, J. Jefferson, G. Coppin, and the well know Manager, J. Lazar; whilst to lovers of
music it will convey reminiscences of Henry Squires, Lucy Escott, W. Farquharson Georgia Hodson, and Madame Carandini. |
