Notes Married Mr H.W. (Harold) Diver, 'the son of Dr Diver of New Zealand' at Hawthorn Victoria on 21st October 1890. (NZ Observer, Volume X, Issue 619, 8 November 1890, Page 6) The married couple both toured with George Darrell for at least part of 1891. AUSTRALIAN STAGE GOSSIP. Otago Witness , Issue 2184, 9 January 1896, Page 37: The case of Diver v. Diver heard in the Sydney Divorce court 'last week'. Lawyer Mr Alfred Shaw stated that 'the petitioner (the wife) was an actress, and played under her maiden name of Polly Emery. respondent was an actor, and had been engaged by the Rignold Dramatic Company, with whom he had been playing of the past two months. The company was disbanded in Melbourne, and since then the petitioner could find no trace of respondent. Application granted. The issues were settled as marriage and desertion, and the trial fixed for February 25 1896.' At some point, she returned to England, and is noted working in a new play, Destruction at the Royalty Theatre London, alongside Dame May Whitty, in January 1923. (WOMEN IN PRINT. Evening Post, Volume CV, Issue 9, 11 January 1923, Page 9). Her father was Frank Emery, who in October 1890 was stage manager of the Theatre Royal, Melbourne. Her actress sister was Louie Emery. All three were part of the 'London company' that arrived in Melbourne c. May 1889.
